Dad getting semi-abusive with new dog?

most dogs are VERY hyper so its completly normal, but its NOT right to beat a dog cuz' he dosent understant what he's doing wrong. the best thing to do is train him or tell him in a normal voice "no" when he does something wrong. he will eventually see he needs to act right. Slowly but Surely :)
